Meet the Case 40-72. Part of the Brinck Heritage Collection, built in 1923 by the J.I. Case Threshing Machine Company in Racine, Wisconsin. The largest cross-motor tractor Case ever made, with the engine sitting crosswise across the frame rather than in-line. This one set a record when it was new. Tested at the Nebraska Tractor Test Laboratory, it delivered 91.42 brake horsepower. The highest number the lab had recorded at the time. But it launched right into a farm depression, and only 41 were ever built. Only one of five known examples still exists today. This one came back through a full frame-up restoration, completed in 2024, torn down to the frame and rebuilt, right down to the hand-painted lettering and the Case eagle back in its place on the radiator.
